Innovationsschub für mehr Wachstum erforderlich

Abstract

Innovationen stellen eine der wichtigsten Determinanten für einzel- und gesamtwirtschaftliches Wachstum dar. Anhand der Ergebnisse des ifo Instituts geben Schmalholz und Penzkofer einen Überblick über die laufenden Innovationsaktivitäten der deutschen Industrie und die Bedeutung der sie beeinflussenden ökonomischen und technologischen Rahmenbedingungen. In den letzen Jahren realisierten rund drei Viertel der Unternehmen Produkt- und/oder Prozeßinnovationen. Zunehmend bedroht wird die Ausschöpfung des vorhandenen Potentials aber durch steigende Innovationskosten in Verbindung mit einer Intensivierung des internationalen Wettbewerbs. Über die Hälfte der Industrieunternehmen operiert auf stagnierenden oder schrumpfenden Märkten. Um zumindest auf mittlere Sicht wieder ein ausgeglichenes Produktportfolio zu erreichen, ist eine offensivere Innovationsstrategie in Richtung Diversifizierung oder Erschließung neuer Märkte erforderlich.
