Umbau des Sozialsystems für eine wettbewerbsfähige Wirtschaft

Abstract

Der wissenschaftliche Teil der 47. ordentlichen Jahresversammlung des ifo Instituts fand am 20. Juni 1996 im Europäischen Patentamt in München statt. Vor dem Hintergrund der Diskussion über den Standort Deutschland wies Dr. Werner Tegtmeier, Staatssekretär im Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales,auf die Interdependenz zwischen wettbewerbsfähiger Wirtschaft und Sozialsystem hin. Herausforderungen wie die wirtschaftliche Globalisierung verlangten Anpassungen in beiden Bereichen. Er vertrat die Ansicht, daß eine soziale Marktwirtschaft leistungsfähiger sei, den sozialen Frieden sichere und die Massenkaufkraft stabilisiere. Der Umfang der Sozialleistungen dürfe die Wirtschaft aber nicht überfordern.
