Die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung der Leipziger Messen im Jahr 1994

Abstract

Am 12. April 1996 wird das neue Leipziger Messegelände offiziell seiner Bestimmung übergeben. Bereits die Veranstaltungen auf dem "alten" Gelände haben beachtliche Produktions- und Beschäftigungseffekte ausgelöst. Nach Berechnungen des ifo Instituts waren die direkten und indirekten Nachfrage- und Produktionswirkungen im Jahr 1994 auf insgesamt rund 400 Mill. DM zu beziffern. Etwa zwei Drittel davon kamen den neuen Bundesländern zugute. Als Folge der Leipziger Messeaktivitäten waren 1994 in Ostdeutschland fast 4.200 und in Westdeutschland etwa 500 Personen beschäftigt. Bei gleichem Ausgabenvolumen werden sich zwar die Beschäftigungseffekte verringern, von dem neuen Messegelände dürften jedoch zusätzliche Nachfrageimpulse ausgehen, die die bisherigen gesamtwirtschaftlichen Effekte noch deutlich übertreffen.
