Taiwan : Modell und Problem für China

Abstract

In der Republik China auf Taiwan finden am 23. März 1996 die ersten feien Diektwahlen des Präsidenten statt. In dem Beitrag werden die historischen und ökonomischen Besonderheiten dieses "Unikums in der Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts" aufgezeigt, dessen reales Bruttoinlandsprocukt im Zeitraum 1951 bis 1990 mit 8,8 % p.a. weltweit die höchste Wachstumsrate erreichte. Ferner werden die - problematischen - Beziehungen zum chinesischen Festland behandelt. Obwohl es offiziell "keinen Kompromiß, keine Verhandlungen und keine Kontakte" gibt, haben sich die Handelsbeziehungen seit der wirtschaftlichen Öffnung der VR China ständig ausgeweitet.
