Die Länder des Maghreb : wirtschaftliche Entwicklung zwischen Europa und Afrika

Abstract

1989 haben die sich die Länder Algerien, Libyen, Marokko, Mauretanien und Tunesien zusammengeschlossen und die Maghreb-Union gegründet. Fünf Jahre nach ihrer Gründung sind die Erfolge der Union eher bescheiden. Vor allem die angestrebte Intensivierung des intraregionalen Warenaustauschs wurde nicht erreicht. Auch in der Kooperation mit anderen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaften, besonders mit der Europäischen Union (EU), wurden keine durchgreifenden Fortschritte erziehlt. Zwischen 1970 und 1992 war nur ein mäßiges Wirtschaftswachstum innerhalb der Maghreb-Union zu verzeichnen. Das aggregierte Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) zu Marktpreisen stieg in diesem Zeitraum von knapp 75 Mrd. US-$ auf gut 120 Mrd. US-$, was einem durchschnittlichen jährlichen Wachstum von 2,3% entspricht. Die zukunftsaussichten der Union sind angesichts der zwischenstaatlichen und innenpolitischen Konflikte ebenfalls wenig günstig.
