Abstract

Das politische und soziale Umfeld in Großbritannien ist vor allem durch das Scheitern der Politik der Konservativen Partei gekennzeichnet. Die Wähler gaben der Regierungspartie bei den Kommunalwahlen im Mai 1994 wegen den Steuererhöhungen eine deutliche Abfuhr. Wirtschaftliche Erfolge sind für die Regierung von höchster Bedeutung, um 1996 weiter an der Macht bleiben zu können. Die Wirtschaftsentwicklung 1993 wird über die Kennzahlen reales Bruttoinlandsprodukt, Bruttoanlageninvestition, privater Konsum, öffentlicher Verbrauch, Export, Import, Leistungsbilanz, Arbeitslosenquote und Konsumentenpreise analysiert. Gestützt auf Graphiken über Industrieproduktion,Preise und Löhne, Außenhandel, Währungsreserven und Zinssätze sowie den Veränderungsraten des realen BIP wird die Wirtschaftsentwicklung für die Jahre 1994 bis 1995 prognostiziert. Demnach setzt sich die konjunkturelle Erholung fort, wobei keine zusätzlichen Impulse von der Wirtschaftspolitik ausgehen werden. Die Finanzpolitik befindet sich auf konsolidierungsorientierter Linie. Die Lage auf dem Arbeitsmarkt wird sich weiter bessern, so daß die Arbeitslosigkeit 1995 etwa 9,5 % beträgt. Ein rascher Anstieg wird bei den Konsumentenpreisen erwartet.
