DDR : Währungsunion bringt Kaufkraftplus

Abstract

Das Preisgefüge der DDR war bisher durch staatliche Eingriffe massiv verzerrt,darum war es in den ersten Tagen nach der Währungsumstellung in einigen Landesteilen zu überzogenen Preisforderungen gekommen. Gebremst wurde der Preisauftrieb bei Nahrungsmitteln durch Preissenkungen bei vielen Genußmitteln. So verbilligte sich Kaffee im Juli um 57 % gegenüber Juni, die Preise für Trauben- und Fruchtweine wurden um 48 % zurückgenommen. Unverändert blieben dagegen die Zigaretten- und Bierpreise. Spürbare Anhebungen wurden im Juli vor allem im Post- und Fernmeldewesen vorgenommen, z. B. stiegen die Brief- und Paketbeförderungsgebühren nach der Währungsumstellung um 230 %. Für die Übernachtungen in Hotels und Pensionen wurde 75 % mehr als im Juni verlangt. Den im Durchschnitt gestiegenen Preisen für Lebensmittel und Dienstleistungen standen im Juli fast durchwegs niedrigere Preise für Ge- und Verbrauchsgüter gegenüber. Zunehmende Konkurrenz zwischen DDR-Anbietern und nachlassender Nachfragedruck dürften in den nächsten Monaten für weitere Verbilligungen sorgen, aber für das nächste Jahr zeichnen sich auch belastende Faktoren ab, wie z.B. Mieterhöhungen, Erhöhungen der Versicherungsprämien, Strompreiserhöhungen.
