Saudi Arabien in den neunziger Jahren

Abstract

Der Beitrag zeigt die Perspektiven eines Landes auf, das sich in den letzten 20 Jahren zum führenden Ölexporteur der Welt entwickelte, Einfluß in der Welt und im Mittleren Osten gewann und zugleich eine der fundamentalsten sozio-ökonomischen Transformationen der modernen Zeit erlebte. Dieser Entwicklung liegen fünf Entwicklungspläne zu Grunde. Öl wird zwar auch in der absehbaren Zukunft das Fundament der saudiarabischen Wirtschaft bleiben, sie hatte in den letzten Jahren jedoch bereits bemerkenswerte Diversifizierungserfolge zu verzeichen. Der Ölsektor trägt inzwischen nur noch rund ein Viertel zum nominalen Bruttoinlandsprokukt bei, nach dem der entsprechende Anteil 1980 noch bei 70% gelegen hatte. Saudi Arabien zählt jetzt zu den 20 größten Volkswirtschaften der Welt und das nicht allein wegen der Ölexporte. Es ist der viertgrößte Importeur von OECD Waren, zusammen mit den anderen Ländern des Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) sogar der größte. Die Experten beurteilen die langfristigen Entwicklungsaussichten positiv (Saudi Arabien verfügt über 40% der bekannten Energievorkommen). Auch die deutsche Wirtschaft hat große Chancen, in Bezug auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Saudi Arabien.
