Hat die Elternzeitreform 1986 in der DDR die Gesundheit der Mütter langfristig verbessert?

Abstract

Diese Studie untersucht mögliche Effekte der DDR-Elternzeitreform aus dem Jahr 1986 auf die körperliche und psychische Gesundheit der Mütter bis zu 33 Jahre nach der Geburt. Mit der Reform wurde Anfang Mai 1986 ein Jahr Elternzeit für alle Mütter eingeführt, nachdem vorher nur eine bestimmte Gruppe von Müttern ein Anrecht darauf hatte. Mithilfe eines Differenz-vonDifferenzen-Ansatzes und auf Grundlage der Daten des deutschen Sozioökonomischen Panels zeige ich, dass diese Reform keine eindeutig positiven oder negativen Effekte auf die langfristige körperliche und psychische Gesundheit der Mütter hatte.
