Bevölkerungsentwicklung und Wanderungsströme von 1991 bis 2008 für Ostdeutschland und Sachsen

Abstract

Aktuell leben in Ostdeutschland mit Berlin ca. 16,5 Mill. Personen und damit rund 1,7 Mill. Personen weniger als noch Ende 1990. Sowohl Ostdeutschland als auch Sachsen sehen sich seit Jahren dem Problem einer schrumpfenden Bevölkerung gegenüber. Entgegen der landläufigen Meinung ist der Bevölkerungsrückgang seit 1991 primär nicht von den Abwanderungen, sondern von der natürlichen Bevölkerungsbewegung (Geburten – Sterbefälle) getrieben. Eine genauere Betrachtung der Wanderungsbilanzen zeigt auch, dass Ostdeutschland durch Wanderungsgewinne aus dem Ausland den Bevölkerungsrückgang etwas bremsen konnte.
