Algorithmic Management in the Platform Economy

Abstract

Il modello della piattaforma è la forma organizzativa distintiva dei primi decenni del XXI secolo. Mentre gli attori contrattano nei mercati, comandano nelle gerarchie e collaborano nelle reti, le piattaforme cooptano asset, risorse e attività che non fanno parte dell’azienda. In quanto forma organizzativa distintiva, il modello della piattaforma affronta una sfida manageriale significativa: come gestire le attività di creazione di valore che vengono intraprese sulla piattaforma ma non in azienda? In una geometria triangolare, i proprietari della piattaforma cooptano il comportamento di fornitori e utenti, iscrivendoli alle pratiche di gestione algoritmica senza che sia stata loro delegata l’autorità gestionale. Le valutazioni e altre attività di fornitori e consumatori vengono tradotte tramite algoritmi in classifiche e altri dispositivi di calcolo che circolano attraverso feedback loops ritorti anziché circolari. La gestione algoritmica implica un tipo particolare di controllo cibernetico perché a ogni piega del feedback loop l’accountability può essere deviata e negata. Mentre il management scientifico all’inizio del XX secolo offriva un principio legittimante per la crescita di una nuova classe dirigente, il management algoritmico all’inizio del XXI secolo sta ridisegnando la classe dirigente. Le asimmetrie di potere a livello organizzativo sono legate a coalizioni a livello regolativo in cui il proprietario della piattaforma e gli investitori sono in alleanza con i consumatori della piattaforma
