Abstract

Remittances in Africa have increased considerably over the two decades, and expending an extremely fruitful literature. In this article, we examine their effect on the observed fragility from a sample of 51 african countries. In fact, starting from different dimensions of fragility, we specify and estimate a panel data model by the Generalized Method of Moments in System [GMM-S] over the period from 1995 to 2016. Our results show that MR increase global fragility in Africa, as well as economic, political and environmental fragilities. They didn’t have any effect on social and security fragilities. Controlled by two complementary measures of MRs, our results remain stable and robust. We suggest a setting up tightening of a traceability system, in order to better control their volume and orientation in the financing of productive economic activities.
