Abstract

In a prevalent tone of frantic urban growth the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) have decided to exist on the world map as a major hub backed on financial, economical and cultural activities, in short to found an emporium. Thus they question the notion of territorialization since they have grown out of the desert to form a new metropolitan area. According to a conceptual approach four phases are discernable in their history: the enclosure, the has been, the tagging along and the archetype. The last stage is part of a town planning with considerable ambitions. The traditional Arab-Muslim world is reinvented without betrayeal through the process of globalization / metropolization. The nature of urban mobilities, the regional connectivity and the global network of the Eau, the expansion of commanding functions and the abundance urbanism are its main concrete testimonies.
