Qualité du cadre juridique, corruption et commerce international : le cas de la CEMAC

Abstract

In this paper, we are interested in assessing the impact of the quality of institutions on trade flows among the Member States of the ?Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa? (EMCCA). The quality of institutions is captured through the practices of public and governmental actions and mainly the legal framework quality and the fight against corruption. To achieve this objective, we use a gravity model inspired by the variant of the model proposed by Anderson and van Wincoop [2003]. This model is estimated in panel in line with the methodology from Santos Silva and Tenreyro [2006, 2011]. Our results indicate that the legal framework low quality and corruption are major obstacles to the expansion of EMCCA?s trade flows. This is why the EMCCA remains one of the least integrated zones in the world.
