La théorie de l'oligopole de Sylos Labini : diversité des interprétations et prolongements possibles

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the reception and interpretation of Paolo Sylos Labini?s theory of oligopoly since its inception. The most striking feature of the history of this reception is that, following a series of successive reinterpretations, the scope of his approach was gradually reduced such that his initial message was practically forgotten, and eventually lost, notably in the context of modern approaches to microeconomic industrial theory. Contraty to what a naïve observer might assume, this disappearance is not the result of progress in economic analysis, but rather of the evolution, and eventual consolidation, of the analysis of oligopolies around a specific research programme ? one that is very far removed from Sylos Labini?s original approach and concerns. This paper also aims to recall and set out the main features of this original approach and of its specificity.
