The role of family workers’ reluctance to work on away-farms in determining the farm size and productivity relationship

Abstract

We propose cultural norms related to family honour as an explanation for the inverse farm size to productivity relationship. We show how family-labour valuation at the marginal product or market wage rate determines the relationship?s strength and direction. JEL Codes: Q12, J43.
