Industrial animal husbandry: environmental and economic consequences

Abstract

Animal husbandry is considered as one of the main branches of agriculture in providing food stuffs. The regulatory requirements of Ukraine and the European Union were submitted, under which livestock farms or poultry complex can be considered as an industrial. The author shows negative environmental impact of large industrial livestock facilities: pollution of surface and ground water with animal waste, phosphatization and soil pollution with heavy metals because of introducing excessive doses of manure into the soil to nearby agricultural grounds, large water intake of fresh water, affecting the surrounding area and the living conditions of the rural population.
