Abstract

This research explores the integration of Rodat Ensemble, a traditional Terengganu Malaysian art music, with modern music production methods to revive interest, particularly among the younger generations, and preserve the cultural heritage. Motivated by the declining popularity of Rodat music, the research aims to innovate and modernize Rodat Ensemble using new audio processing software and production methods while upholding its authenticity. This study employs a practice-based research approach with research and creative work integration through music output. Using advanced Artificial Intelligence enabled tools such as Musicfy and Lalal.ai, this research examines and processes Rodat performances. The research identifies Muyahayo vocals, one of the Rodat Ensemble songs, possesss microtonal qualities and are more laid-back in terms of timing compared to those used in pop vocals. The research also produced a song to illustrate how these qualities are utilized with state-of-the-art technology.
