Sustainability Practices and Operational Challenges of Printing Shops in Cabanatuan City, Philippines

This paper examines the sustainability practices of printing shops in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, using a descriptive-quantitative research design. It specifically aimed to describe the business profile of the printing shops, and the implementation of sustainability practices in their business operation, including the challenges encountered, and the strategies they are employing. Quantitative data were collected using a self-developed, validated, and reliability-tested survey instrument. A total enumeration method was applied to cover all the registered printing shops in the research area, and utilized descriptive statistics to analyzed and described the collected data. The results revealed that the printing shops are lo ng-established, and are categorized as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with moderate capitals and with a small workforce, offering primarily basic printing services. The sustainability practices of the printing shops are consistently implemented in aspects including financial management, costumer relation, skill development of employees, and environmental practices, while market demand and technological adoption were only generally implemented. Although sustainable practices are consistently employed by the printing shops, challenges still persisted in the form of limited financial resources, high operational costs, and strong market competition. Thus, this study highlights the need for improved financial strategies, greater investment in modern technological innovation, and enhanced marketing approaches, coupled with stronger adoption of environmentally sustainable practices to ensure long-term business resilience and operation.
