Abstract

Architectural theorists have differing opinions on the reconstruction of historical works and textures and address the issue of architecture with different personal attitudes and knowledge. In addition, they select different methods for distinguishing the buildings requiring reconstruction. Despite the international charters and agreed principles in some developed countries, creating a unity of opinion in terms of tastes and thoughts seems difficult. Some principles and measures can, however, be considered and developed as common points to direct thinking in reconstruction and maintain the appropriate attitudes and principles. Such principles may have some behavioural similarities and include the expected features of architecture. In this case study, the reconstruction of Zonouz historical bazaar is studied to understand how international charters and principles have been applied to restore the historical identity and function of a structure.
