Abstract

Although diversity in a company comes with many benefits, those tasked with working directly with people from other countries do not necessarily have the cultural awareness needed and are often unskilled in adapting their communication style. So despite good intentions, miscommunication can often keep companies from reaping the many benefits of an international team. To communicate effectively in this new environment, where diversity is on the rise, takes a new set of skills and, even more importantly, a new perspective. Whether you are challenged by managing a team abroad or are working with someone in your office who is from another country, this paper offers seven tips on how to adapt your communication and, in turn, improve corporate efficiency.
