Waste Management As A Function Of Spatial Efficiency And Safety Of Urban Micro-Communities

Abstract

The ever-increasing impact of climate and geopolitical changes on population migration determines the intensity and volume of urbanization. Predictions indicate that by 2050, 68.4% of the total population on planet Earth will live in urban centers (cc 6.68 billion). All this confirms the necessity of establishing efficient process models that will enable sustainable life and development within urban spaces. This work aims to point out the importance of efficient management of the waste management process on the spatial efficiency and safety of both the entire urban space and its micro-localities, i.e. urban micro-communities or districts. Using the example of the city of Split, an analysis of the impact of the existing waste collection model on the spatial efficiency of urban micro-communities (neighborhoods) will be carried out through the direct impact on traffic infrastructure, i.e. on the space provided for idle traffic (parking spaces). The main hypothesis is: the management of waste removal processes is in direct correlation with the growth of income through efficient management of city space. Application of the results of this work, in synergy with modern IT solutions, will contribute to the creation of efficient waste management processes and traffic infrastructure management in the city of Split.
