Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive review of existing research on digital transformation (DT) and digital maturity (DM) in the context of airport operations, with the primary aim of investigating and discussing the key factors influencing the implementation of both concepts. The research methodology involved a search and review of the literature through the WoS and Scopus databases using the keywords "digital transformation" OR "digital maturity" AND "airport*". Out of the total of 104 scholarly articles identified, 36 were selected for detailed analysis based on their relevance. It was found that the concept of applying DT in airports is predominantly perceived from the perspective of implementing digital technologies in operations, while neglecting other critical factors of DT, including organizational readiness, innovation, ecosystems, and the business environment of the airport. Case studies on DT implementation mainly focused on individual airports or a small number of airports, while the use of research models and advanced SEM methods is presented in only two studies examining a larger sample of airports or passenger experience. The conclusion drawn is that there is a significant gap in the scientific literature regarding the application of a comprehensive approach to the various dimensions of digital transformation in airports.
