Exploring the Conceptual Dimensions of Spirituality in Workplaces: A Systematic Literature Review (in Persian)

Abstract

Purpose: Spirituality in the workplace has gained attention as an emerging paradigm in human resource management, as it can provide employees with a supportive and constructive psychological environment. To achieve more comprehensive understanding of this abstract phenomenon, the present study aimed to explore the conceptual dimensions of workplace spirituality. Methodology: This study was conducted within the framework of the interpretive paradigm, employing a qualitative approach with an inductive orientation and utilizing a systematic literature review methodology. The information sources for this research included scientific articles published in reputable international databases between 2000 and 2024, from which 51 eligible articles were selected for final analysis. Thematic analysis was employed to examine the content of the selected articles. Findings: The conceptual dimensions constituting workplace spirituality encompass four overarching themes: individual dimensions (meaning-seeking, personal growth, and inner peace derived from meaningful work), interpersonal dimensions (trust, solidarity, and belonging), organizational dimensions (alignment of personal and organizational values, and supportive climate), and supra-organizational dimension (serving society and the environment beyond self-interests). Originality: Developing a relatively comprehensive understanding of the constituent dimensions of workplace spirituality represents a significant contribution of this research. Identifying these factors can yield valuable insights for cultivating spirituality in the workplace and utilizing its benefits and outcomes.
