Abstract

Nowadays, the level of individual access to social capital and the status of the individual within various social networks define how much s/he enjoys the quality of ideal life. Accordingly, this study tries to examine the relationship between social capital and quality of life among retirees. Primarily, such a relationship was studied in a survey-type research. Therefore, Lipad Elderly Quality of Life Questionnaire was used for this descriptive-analytical research. A number of 228 retirees of the University of Tabriz were selected as samples through random sampling method. Data analysis was made using SPSS statistical software in addition to the application of Pearson correlation test and linear regression. The research findings showed a significant positive relationship between social capital and the quality of life among the retirees. In the men time, the regression analysis demonstrated that the dimensions of social capital, i.e. social cohesion, social participation and social trust, could explain 32% of the variance in the quality of life (dependent variable). Consequently, social capital and its components are good predictors for the quality of life among University of Tabriz retirees
