Specifics of Managerial Decisions and their Information Support in Specialized Non-Hospital Medical Care

Abstract

Decision making process in the specialized non-hospital medical care has specific characteristics, which are not typical for business companies and other non-profit organizations. The need to constantly combine the medical and the economic point of view makes the managerial process in medical centers much more complicated and information demanding. The aim of the current research paper is to outline the factors which determine the specifics of managerial decisions in specialized non-hospital medical care and to identify the information needs of healthcare managers. The reported results are based on literature review and empirical study conducted among the managers of the most successful medical centers in Varna district. It was discovered that the greatest part of the respondents works in conditions of limited rationality, because they are not able to access all data they need to take managerial decisions. Reasons for that can be found in the imperfections of the used specialized software and the problems with the organization of the information flows in Bulgarian healthcare system.
