Imigração e Comércio Internacional no Contexto da Integração Europeia – O Caso Português

Abstract

O objectivo deste artigo é analisar a relação entre imigração e comércio entre países da UE. Em concreto, no contexto do alargamento das fronteiras da UE em 2004, testamos se a acumulação do stock de imigrantes oriundos dos Novos Estados Membros tem impacto, ou não, sobre as exportações Portuguesas para aqueles mercados. Aplicando dados em painel do período 1995-2007 para Portugal num modelo gravitacional de comércio internacional acrescido da variável stock de imigrantes, chegamos ao resultado que a imigração resultante do alargamento da UE tem um impacto positivo nas exportações Portuguesas para os respectivos países de origem.
