Metacognitive Learning Strategies Scale: AStudy of Reliability and Validity

Abstract

Metacognitive learning strategies are learner’s knowledge about his/her own learning, cognitive system and structure. The main purpose of this study was to develop a metacognitive learning strategies scale. Data for this study were collected from 655 university students. In order to establish the validity and reliability, factor analysis, interval consistency coefficient, item-total correlation coefficient and concurrent validity analyses were used. Factor analysis showed that the scale had four factors which explained 45% of the total variance. As a result, the scale, which was developed to measure university students’metacognitive learning strategy levels, was found to be valid and reliable.
