Abstract

Developments in developed countries, especially after 1950, have highlighted the weaknesses and challenges in taking into account the basic needs of society - employment, nutrition, quality of life needs of present generations to those of future generations etc. Although there have been increases in welfare based on technological and economic development model adopted, the price was paid by: continuing environmental degradation, negative social effects (large urban areas), irrational and inappropriate exploitation of resources, aiming at obtaining of maximum economic gains. Therefore, at present, the concept of development cannot be separated from issues and concerns to ensure sustainable development.
