Aproximación y medición del comercio electrónico: principales datos a nivel nacional

Abstract

En los últimos dos años se han generado grandes expectativas en torno a las posibilidades y beneficios que el desarrollo de Internet y del comercio electrónico puede introducir en la economía y la sociedad, a pesar de que son muchas las incertidumbres relativas a ambos fenómenos. Sólo recientemente parece haberse instaurado cierto sosiego, reconociéndose que son todavía muchos los obstáculos que hay que salvar para que el desarrollo de ambos se generalice. El artículo presenta una revisión de los datos existentes sobre Internet y el comercio electrónico en España, explicando las diferencias metodológicas de las diversas fuentes de información, sobre la base de una propuesta analítica que parte del estudio de las infraestructuras y terminales de acceso, hasta llegar al análisis del comercio electrónico. Los resultados obtenidos indican que nuestro país presenta cierto retraso con relación a Europa Occidental en el desarrollo y penetración tanto de Internet como del comercio electrónico. Pero aún más importantes son las marcadas diferencias encontradas con relación a la penetración de estas tecnologías en los diferentes estratos de la sociedad y las empresas, así como a nivel de localización geográfica
