Análisis Empírico de la Relación entre Competencia e Inversión en el Servicio de Telefonía Móvil Peruano

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza empíricamente los efectos de la intensidad competitiva entre empresas operadoras del servicio de telefonía móvil sobre la inversión total en dicha industria. Para ello, se utilizó la información disponible de series de tiempo anuales correspondientes al periodo 2000-2018 y cuya fuente de información son los registros administrativos del OSIPTEL, INEI y el MINTRA. A fin de afrontar el problema de series temporales cortas, el análisis se realizó empleando técnicas multivariadas (análisis factorial y componentes principales) y el enfoque de inferencia bayesiana aplicado al modelo de regresión lineal clásico y de Vectores Autorregresivos. Las estimaciones muestran que la inversión total asociada al servicio de telefonía móvil no es afectada por cambios en la intensidad competitiva de los proveedores del servicio. Por lo que, los resultados respaldan la opinión de que la competencia entre operadores de telefonía móvil no desalienta la inversión en esta industria de telecomunicaciones inalámbricas.
