Abstract

L'approche proposée tente de repérer les potentialités de réduction des coûts de production, en particulier au niveau des engrais achetés, pour un ensemble d'exploitations tout en maintenant leur niveau de production inchangé. Grâce à la notion d'efficacité technique, on mesure l'écart existant entre le niveau des intrants observé pour chaque entreprise agricole et un niveau considéré comme optimal déterminé par rapport aux exploitations les plus performantes. Cette amélioration de la situation individuelle des producteurs présente un intérêt pour la société puisque par résorption de leur inefficacité relative aux intrants polluants, les producteurs contribuent à limiter l'impact négatif de l'agriculture sur l'environnement. Dans un deuxième temps, l'auteur s'intéresse au co-produit particulier de l'activité agricole, que sont les déjections animales. Une mesure de performance environnementale est déterminée afin d'estimer le potentiel de réduction du niveau d'azote organique présent sur chaque exploitation. Ces mesures peuvent aussi permettre de repérer quels sont les facteurs responsables de la moindre performance de certaines exploitations, ce qui permet d'envisager des actions de développement mieux ciblées. Après une présentation de la méthodologie employée, les différentes mesures d'efficacité et de performance environnementale sont appliquées à trois échantillons d'élevage bovins des régions Bretagne et Pays-de-la-Loire pour l'année 1995.
