Nonparametric and Parametric Analyses of Demand for Food at Home and Away from Home

Abstract

Nonparametric tests show that food at home and food away from home can be appropriately included as separate groups or a combined group in a complete demand system for the first stage budgeting. However, the estimated gross and compensated price elasticities are sensitive to alternative groupings of expenditure categories.
