Us Imports Of Clothing From Asian Developing Countries

Abstract

Low wage costs have been regarded as the most important determinant of competitiveness in clothing production. But differentiation in respect to quality and design content is also important, as is 'quick response'. This paper considers the comparative dvantages of the different Asian countries as reflected in the relative unit value of their exports and the amount of the different products they supply. Recent changes in the quantity supplied are considered as giving some indication as to what will happen when the Multi-Fibre Arrangement quotas are removed. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
