Regionalwirtschaftliche und touristische Effekte von Sportgroßveranstaltungen

Abstract

Sportgroßveranstaltungen sind ein beliebtes Mittel, um potenziell positive wirtschaftliche Effekte für den Austragungsort bzw. die umliegende Region auszulösen. Der erwartete wirtschaftliche Nutzen speist sich zum einen aus Infrastrukturinvestitionen, die für die Zwecke der Veranstaltung getätigt werden, danach jedoch der lokalen Bevölkerung bzw. den Unternehmen zugutekommen, und zum anderen aus einem touristischen Mehrwert: So soll nicht nur der Zustrom von Besucher:innen Mehreinnahmen erbringen, sondern auch die erhöhte mediale Aufmerksamkeit die Bekanntheit bzw. das Image der Region verbessern. Diese langfristigen ("Legacy"-)Effekte sollen noch Jahre nach der Veranstaltung eine positive Wirkung entfalten. Empirische Studien zeichnen jedoch ein weniger günstiges Bild: Über viele Veranstaltungen hinweg sind – falls überhaupt – lediglich vorübergehende Effekte nachweisbar, die zudem meist moderat ausfallen, während die Kosten der Veranstaltung im Regelfall deutlich höher sind als geplant.
