Kosten und Nutzen des Bildungssystems im internationalen Vergleich

Abstract

In Österreich ist das Leistungsniveau der 15-jährigen Schüler im internationalen Vergleich hoch. Das wird mit einem vergleichsweise großen Kostenaufwand für das Bildungssystem erreicht. Die jährliche Ertragsrate einer Verlängerung der Ausbildung über die Pflichtschule hinaus erreicht international zwischen 3% und 14%. Die skandinavischen Länder liegen in dieser Rangfolge am unteren Ende – ein Indikator für die relativ flache Lohnstruktur –, Österreich im oberen Mittelfeld und die USA, Irland sowie Großbritannien an der Spitze. In allen Ländern war Ende der neunziger Jahre die Ertragsrate der Ausbildung über die Pflichtschule hinaus höher als der reale Zinsertrag von Kapitalinvestitionen.
