Abstract

In this paper, different land-use planning models have been reviewed; within this review, techniques and methodologies with different objectives, applications, and land uses have been identified. The existing literature in this field is dispersed throughout different subjects, such as planning, geographical information systems (GIS), decisionmaking, or computer systems. The compilation, analysis, and comparison of the different models have allowed us to draw a series of conclusions for the development and implementation of strategic plans for rural land use. Because GIS have become an essential tool in rural land-use planning, special attention has been paid to the models and methods integrated into GIS.
