Le WIR en Suisse : la révolte du puissant ?

Abstract

La monnaie WIR existe en Suisse depuis 1934. Née dans un contexte de crise économique et monétaire, elle est parvenue à résister aux changements économiques et sociaux et à se développer. Utilisée aujourd’hui par plus de 60 000 entreprises en Suisse, son succès renvoie à un modèle économique et social cohérent que véhicule cette monnaie particulière. Cet article cherche à comprendre les raisons de cette force, et à les mettre en relation avec le système monétaire suisse officiel. Nous nous interrogeons en particulier sur la possible contestation de ce dernier par la monnaie WIR, du fait de son réseau et des valeurs qu’elle incarne. Nous mettons en évidence que le WIR est en fait intégré au système monétaire suisse officiel, mais que son existence et sa force permettent à la dynamique d’ensemble de bien fonctionner. Le WIR est « puissant » car il est au cœur du fonctionnement économique et social de la Suisse, montrant par son exemple que la pluralité monétaire sert l’unité monétaire du pays, tout comme la force du tissu industriel de ses PME, en s’appuyant sur la « force des liens faibles ».
