Abstract

[eng] Ageing People in FRG Renatě H. Draus The ageing of the population is more advanced in Germany than anywhere else. Massive immigration from East Germany in the fifties aggravated the tendency. A high proposition of the aged are women. As in France, old people's per capita income is above average. Their financial wealth is also significantly above average. Their living conditions and their health have been steadily improving. This has a positive impact on the German economy. Old people spend more on consumption, and save less, than do old people in France. Old people in Germany are heavily involved in associative and political life. Family relationships are intensifying : old people give all sorts of material help, but as regards moral values, the gap between the generations is widening.
