Abstract

[eng] Forecasting Consumption and Production Thanks to Surveys of the Economic Environment - The answers of firm managers to surveys of the economic environment help specialists guess the short term trends of economic activity. . However, the reading of « opinion polls », the most frequently presented indicators, raises a few problems of interpretation: for instance, the user may hesitate between interpreting such indicators in terms of their level or in growth rate terms. . Properly adjusted by econometric methods, opinion polls make it possible to construct advanced indicators which are both precise and robust. Thus, the orders reteilers plan to place and the statements made by industrialists make it possible to assess the consumption and production of manufactured products a long time before direct observation is possible.
