Vector model for calculation of solar radiation intensity and sums incident on tilted surfaces. Identification for the three sky condition in Warsaw

Abstract

This paper presents a mathematical broadband model for the density of solar radiation energy incident on a tilted surface of the Earth with an arbitrary tilting angle. The devised model has been described by means of vector calculus using the notions of spherical geometry, theory of extinction and diffusion of solar radiation. The idea of the model has been taken from the relevant publications cited and supplemented by the conclusions from our own considerations. They include: the condition of a shadow of a plane, the concept of the effect of radiation as a sum of two states—one corresponding to a clear sky and another corresponding to a cloudy day—as well as a numerical realization of the presented discrete description. In order to evaluate the constants of the model the results of the statistical analysis are needed. In the present contribution, data from the period 1976–1985 from the Warsaw area are used. The data set consists of monthly averages of values of daily horizontal radiation: global ZmHG and beam normal ZmHB, in three sky conditions: clear sky, mean cloudy sky and fully cloudy sky. The model enables the calculation of the components' intensity and sum of solar radiation for all conditions and for an arbitrary tilted plane for any duration of time.
