Die Pandemie als "Armee Allahs": Covid-19 und der "Islamische Staat" in Südostasien

Abstract

Am 24. August 2020 verübten zwei Selbstmordattentäterinnen einen Doppelanschlag im südphilippinischen Jolo, bei dem 14 Menschen getötet und mehr als 75 verletzt wurden. Er wurde vom 'Islamischen Staat' (IS) für sich beansprucht und war das erste aufwendig geplante und öffentlichkeitswirksame Attentat seit Beginn der Corona-Pandemie. Zudem kommt es beinahe wöchentlich zu Anschlägen und An­griffen in Indonesien und auf den Philippinen. Zuvor hatten Anhänger des IS die Pandemie als 'Armee Allahs' bezeichnet, welche die Gegner des IS schwäche und so die Gelegenheit für neue, größere Anschläge biete. Befürchtungen, islamistische Attacken könnten sich infolge von Covid-19 massiv häufen, bestätigten sich indes bislang nicht, obwohl der IS in der Region weiterhin präsent ist. Dort gehen die Sicherheitskräfte nach wie vor militärisch gegen die Organisation vor. Die strukturellen Ursachen des Terrorismus dagegen werden bei seiner Bekämpfung immer noch vernachlässigt.
