Abstract

Am Montag, dem 23. Februar 2004, hat die US Army verkündet, daß das Rüstungsprojekt Aufklärungs-/Kampfhubschrauber RAH-66 Comanche eingestellt werden solle. Was auf den ersten Blick wie »ein normaler Abbruch« eines, wenn auch hoch dotierten (39 Mrd. US-Dollar) Rüstungsprogramms aussieht, entpuppt sich bei näherer Betrachtung als Teilschritt einer massiven Restrukturierung der US-Heeresflieger. Diese Umstrukturierung ist der erste große Sieg von Verteidigungsminister Rumsfeld in der internen Auseinandersetzung um die von ihm angestrebte Transformation der US-Streitkräfte. Mit ihm sind denn auch verschiedenartige militärische, wirtschaftliche und militärpolitische Konsequenzen verknüpft. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
