Pakistan nach Musharraf: Beginn der Ära Zardari?

Abstract

Mit der Vereidigung Asif Ali Zardaris zum Präsidenten Pakistans am 9. September ist der Machtwechsel, der mit den Parlamentswahlen im Februar 2008 eingeleitet worden war, vollzogen und die Ära Musharraf Geschichte. Die Pakistan People's Party (PPP), deren Vorsitz Zardari gemeinsam mit seinem 20-jährigen Sohn Bilal innehat, verfügt mit ihren Koalitionspartnern im Parlament und in drei der vier Provinzparlamente über die absolute Mehrheit. Zudem wird Zardari von den Streitkräften, den Spitzen der Bürokratie und den westlichen Verbündeten unterstützt. Mit so viel Rückenwind besteht die Chance, dass der neu gewählte Präsident das sich jetzt öffnende Zeitfenster nutzt, um drängende Probleme wie den Anti-Terror-Kampf und die Wirtschaftskrise anzupacken und Pakistan aus seiner gegenwärtigen Krise herauszuführen
