Abstract

In den USA hat eine konfrontativ-kompetitive Politik gegenüber China Gestalt angenommen. Sie beruht auf dem problematischen Narrativ, die Politik des Engagements sei eine Selbsttäuschung und amerikanischen Interessen abträglich gewesen. Washington will verbündete Staaten in die neue Chinapolitik einbeziehen. Die Covid-Pandemie und die wechselseitigen Beschuldigungen haben den Abwärtstrend in den amerikanisch-chinesischen Beziehungen verstärkt. Für Deutschland und Europa wird sich mehr denn je die Frage stellen, wie man sich im eskalierenden amerikanisch-chinesischen Konflikt positioniert, wie viel Schulterschluss mit den USA geboten, wie viel eigenständige Politik gegenüber Peking notwendig und möglich ist
