Die Krise in Georgien: Das Ende der "Rosenrevolution"?

Abstract

Auf Demonstranten einprügelnde Polizisten lieferten am 7. November ein negatives Kontrastbild zur friedlichen »Rosenrevolution«, bei der nicht eine einzige Fensterscheibe zu Bruch gegangen war. Die Reaktion der georgischen Regierung auf die Massenproteste wirft Schatten auf die staatliche Erneuerung Georgiens. Besonders in russischen Stellungnahmen wurde die Meinung deutlich, der Westen müsse sich von einer idealisierenden, realitätsfernen Vorstellung von Georgien verabschieden, wie sie in Präsident Bushs Wort vom »Leuchtturm der Freiheit für die Region und die Welt« auf plakative Weise zum Ausdruck kommt. Europa und die USA äußerten Kritik an den Übergriffen der Polizei, an der Erstürmung und Schließung des Oppositionssenders Imedi und der Verhängung des Ausnahmezustands, der bald darauf rückgängig gemacht wurde. Ist die zwischen September und November 2007 zugespitzte innenpolitische Krise tatsächlich die in vielen Kommentaren behauptete Zäsur? (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
