Schatten über den Europawahlen: Drei Szenarien für EU-skeptische Parteien nach den Wahlen 2019

Abstract

Europawahlen galten lange als Wahlen zweiter Ordnung, mit nur geringer politischer Bedeutung. Doch 2019 mausern sie sich zur Richtungswahl über die Zukunft der EU - nicht nur weil das Europäische Parlament (EP) an Bedeutung gewonnen hat, sondern vor allem weil sich das europäische Parteiensystem fundamental wandelt. Während etablierte Parteien an Unterstützung verlieren, haben rechtspopulistische und EU-skeptische Parteien europaweit zugelegt. Gleichzeitig gibt es verstärkte Bemühungen, die traditionell zersplitterten EU-skeptischen Kräfte in einer Sammlungsbewegung zu vereinen. In der nächsten Wahlperiode ist zwar kein drastischer Anstieg der Zahl EU-skeptischer Abgeordneter zu erwarten. Die Umordnung im EU-skeptischen Spektrum könnte aber den Auftakt für einschneidende Veränderungen im politischen Gefüge der EU bilden.
