Freihandelsabkommen mit Korea: Chancen für die europäische Politik und Wirtschaft

Abstract

Erstmals vereinbart die EU ein Freihandelsabkommen mit einem asiatischen Land. Nach 26 Monaten zäher Verhandlungen haben sich die Republik Korea und die EU auf eine umfassende Liberalisierung ihrer Handels- und Wirtschaftsbeziehungen geeinigt. Dadurch wird zwischen Europa und Südkorea die nach NAFTA weltweit zweitgrößte Freihandelszone entstehen. Auf den entgegengesetzten Enden der eurasischen Landmasse gelegen werden sich Europa und die koreanische Halbinsel durch das Abkommen politisch und wirtschaftlich näher kommen. Gegen das Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement (KOREU FTA) gibt es allerdings von Teilen der europäischen Wirtschaft erhebliche Widerstände, so dass die Ratifizierung kein Selbstläufer sein wird. Europas Automobilindustrie beispielsweise hält KOREU für unausgewogen. Gesamtwirtschaftlich ist das Abkommen jedoch positiv zu sehen. Gerade für die von der Finanzkrise gebeutelte deutsche Exportindustrie ergeben sich große Chancen. Handelspolitisch setzt KOREU ein positives Zeichen gegen den weltweiten Trend zum Protektionismus
