Ein Mandat für die Republikaner? Ergebnis und Konsequenzen der Kongresswahlen in den USA

Abstract

Die amerikanischen Kongreßwahlen vom 2. November 2004 haben der Republikanischen Partei einen bedeutenden Sieg beschert. Sowohl im Repräsentantenhaus als auch im Senat konnte sie ihre Mehrheiten ausbauen. Diese neuen, deutlicheren Mehrheiten führen jedoch nicht zwangsläufig zu einer engeren Kooperation des Kongresses mit dem Weißen Haus. Vielmehr könnten sich auf einer Reihe von Feldern wie dem der Richterernennungen oder der Steuerpolitik Konflikte entwickeln. Der Erfolg der Bush-Administration wird also maßgeblich von ihrer Fähigkeit abhängen, den republikanisch dominierten Kongreß für ihre Projekte zu gewinnen. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
