Abstract

Die Chinareise von Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder im Dezember 2003 hat im In- und Ausland eine neue Debatte über das Verhältnis von Pragmatismus und Werte-Orientierung in den europäisch-chinesischen Beziehungen ausgelöst. Potentielle Brisanz erhält diese Frage durch die zeitgleiche Kontroverse um Unipolarität oder Multipolarität als Strukturelemente internationaler Politik. Nicht nur in China wird darüber nachgedacht, die amerikanische Vormacht unter anderem durch eine Koordinierung der jeweiligen Außenpolitiken einzudämmen. Solche Gedankenspiele entbehren der materiellen Grundlagen und lenken schlimmstenfalls von einer effizienten Befassung mit den großen Weltproblemen ab. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
